Roatan – Day #6

What a day! We painted an entire house, a front porch, did some tutoring with the kids at Harrion’s mentoring program, and took Juliana’s family to a pool (which they had never experienced before) for a treat! It was a day of hard work and hard play! Read on.

Roatan – Day #7

We started our week with a bang, and unfortunately felt the need to end it that way too. We finished some time at the orphanage, spent some more time in the ER, bought souveniers for all of you reading…and said our goodbyes to the families and children that we have grown to love this week. We also had to say goodbye to two of our team members, and we ask that you keep them in your prayers. One the upside, what a wonderful week! We have seen many things, been a blessing to so many, but have indeed been blessed way more than we ever expected!

Day 5 – Roatan Hospital ER

Working today in the Roatan Hospital ER and then back to the Children’s Home.  The day begain sanding walls in the ER.  The hospital condition is so bad it is hard to explain in words.  The best way to fix it would probably be with a bulldozer, but we began the work that a second team will finish next week.  Read on to see the thoughts of the students.

Day 4 – An Amazing Family

Today we finished our work on the home build, made decisions on how the $400 we donated would be spent, enjoyed the hospitality of the family and then went to work with the children at the mentoring program.  It was quite a day!  Read the blogs of the students to see what that thought.

Day 3–Hard Work Pays Off

Today was a day of back breaking labor–digging out 6 to 8 inches of dirt under the new house in order to allow for a concrete floor to be laid.  The dirt also included roots and rocks.  Read the posts to hear the student’s reflections on how the day progressed.

Last Minute Preparations

Supplies being bought, suitcases being packed, papers being finished, tests being completed–just in time for us to leave tomorrow night in order to catch our flight out of Washington, DC at 7:00am Friday morning.  As I take care of last minute details, and listen to each of the students it is exciting for me to see their excitement.  They are ready to go–ready to work–and ready to be the face of Christ to the people we will meet in Roatan.  There will be long days, frustration, times we wish we could do more, and perhaps even some times when we get on each other’s nerves, but it will be an amazing trip, full of opportunities, joy, growth, bonding and God’s love!  Pray for us as we begin this journey, and follow us on our blog as we seek to be faithful to God’s call.

What are we doing in Roatan?

How do you love your neighbor as yourself?

Matthew 22:36-40

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

You have seen the images and family we will be working with.
We want to hear what you think about what you have seen so far?
Are you ready for what you have seen?
Do you have any expectations yet?
What about the culture do you have questions about?

Anyone that would like to expand on what we are doing would be excellent…Linda?

A few more images for the home build and donation site!
